Life is busy. You have enough on your mind every day. You don't need to add anything else to your plate. You need a way to store important information so you can use it when you need it.

You need an Idea Development System

An idea development system is an efficient way to organize, develop, and apply information. You can start by making one notecard per day. In a month, you'll be developing a habit.

You'll see your productivity rise and your stress decrease — because you have a system for storing all of your important information. You won't need to rely solely on your memory or "top of mind" creativity — because you have a system.

No matter your field, expertise, or interest, building an idea development system will accelerate your growth, learning, memory, and creativity.

Have you been creatively stuck?

How many times have you sat down to do some work — writing, recording, journaling — and you find yourself stuck. You remember this interesting observation from a week ago. You recorded it somewhere. You page through an old notebook, search through some files on your computer — no luck.

You brainstorm a list of possibilities. Nothing is jumping out. You had some brilliant idea that you meant to unpack, but you can't remember what it was. You spend most of your time trying to generate a new, creative idea before you realize that your time is almost up.

You jot down a few quick notes and tell yourself that you'll work on this tomorrow.

This process is exhausting.

Maybe you return to your old notes, maybe you refine them and turn them into something incredible.

But, if you're like me, those notes just sit on your desk until you throw them away. Or you take another crack at them, but they never seem to inspire the way you hoped they might. You try to rework them into something usable, but then you give up.

And now you need a new idea. So you set aside some time, sit down to work — and repeat the same creative process. You struggle to find an idea, second guess yourself and decide to tackle this another day.

Lots of people burn out and give up.

Which makes sense. This process is exhausting. Revisiting a frustrating and difficult process where you don't see results will wear you out.

I've seen people repeat this process so often that they become convinced that they are not capable of creative, meaningful work. What other conclusion is there? If every time you sit down to do this work, it's a deep struggle — doesn't that mean you aren't very creative?

What if there was a better way?

I know this exhausting process because I've lived it. After years of sitting down and trying to drum up the proper creative energy from scratch— I've finally found a solution.

I discovered a system of capturing ideas called the Zettelkasten system, used by sociologist Niklas Luhmann. I started reading everything I could find about the most optimal ways to record and develop ideas.

And soon, I implemented my first rudimentary note-capturing system. It was 100% analog, just pen and notecards, but it was great. I began developing ideas. I cataloged ideas into groups and began building up a database. I was hooked.

Transform your creative process by creating an idea development platform.

Here's a brief breakdown of the necessary steps:

Capture

The first step is writing something down. There are countless ways to capture ideas, you just need to choose the one that works best for you. The key? Remove the friction. Your capture method must be easy and readily accessible.

Develop

You're not going to use every idea you capture — and that's OK! Developing an idea is about editing and processing your initial thought into something that you can use in the future.

Organize

Once you have a developed idea, you need to properly categorize the concept. Group interrelated ideas in the same categories so that the content is easily searchable in the future.

Implement

It won't be long, and you'll have a growing library of high-quality, malleable concepts. These developed ideas serve as a springboard toward additional work, acting as a "second brain" that can store nearly unlimited concepts.

Never Start from Scratch Again

It's not an exaggeration to say that the system I've developed has greatly improved my life. Now, when I sit down to do work, I'm not straining to generate ideas or "be creative."

Instead, I'm looking through my enormous catalog of high-quality material and building fresh, new concepts related to my previous notes. I'm developing unique and exciting work by investigating the relationships between different ideas.

Now, when I sit down for any creative work, I'm excited by what I might find. A significant source of tension and pressure has been removed from my process because I'm never starting from scratch.

Get Ready to Grow

Don't start from scratch.
Learn how to build a simple, powerful system to organize and develop your ideas.

A Simple, Powerful System to Organize your Mind

I will show you how to build a framework for capturing and developing your ideas. From initial thought to final production, I'll lay out the steps you need to follow in order to create an accessible content library. With clear and actionable steps, you'll learn how to capture, develop, organize, and implement ideas in increasingly productive fashion.

How would it feel to have all of your best ideas at your fingertips?

You're going to love building this system — it will change how you work and think. Once you've developed a few ideas — typically between 5 and 10 — you'll start getting momentum. You'll be amazed at how rewarding it feels to capture and develop ideas. It won't be long and you'll have a library of high-quality material. You'll have an ever-expanding storehouse of building blocks for your future work.

And while this may seem geared toward certain types of creative work, I promise you that these concepts are applicable across fields and disciplines.

If you're an aspiring cook or chef and want to document what you're learning — this is a tremendous system. If you're doing research and need a system to store your work — this is for you. I know people who have applied these concepts to everything from parenting to gardening and found it extremely helpful.

The beauty of this system is flexibility and customization. You can scale this system to highly complex levels — or keep things remarkably simple. The goal is to help you create a tool that serves you, so you don't need to rely on generating ideas off the top of your head.

Your Memory Backup

I still carry a Field Notes notebook with me at all times. I still develop and process notes on notecards. But I've also utilized some remarkably helpful software that has further streamlined my work. At this point, I have a vast database of material — both analog and digital —  to draw from at any given moment.

I don't need to worry about keeping everything in my mind because I know I've done the work to record and develop ideas. When I have a new idea, I don't worry about it slipping away because I have a proven system to capture, develop and retrieve ideas. I've built an idea development system that is practical, accessible, and simple — and I'll teach you how to do the same thing.
